The road to Bodegas Bordoy leads past lifeless uncultivated fields. Dry, stony soils dominate the landscape. Not even a grape juice is likely to be produced here. We pass by old dry stone walls and the impressive chapel of the Hilton Hotel and enter the world of wine of Bodegas Bordoy after 500 meters. Nineteen hectares of land were planted with vines. The production hall is built of old construction materials. The roof and parts of the floor came from the old Continental Hotel. The barely recognizable wine warehouse was built into a hill forested with pine trees. The congenial German, Sandra Adrian, greets the visitor in perfect Spanish. She is responsible for the sale of wines. Whether whole bus tours or small group, she looks after everybody individually. In a small sample, directly from the stainless steel tank, we try the new whites. The white wine made from Chardonnay and Prensal grapes has seen the recent addition of Giró Ros grape juice; a fantastic blend, unique thanks to autochthonous Giró Ros. A good investment in the future of the winery. Summer is coming.
Sa Rota Chardonnay Barrica 2013
Chardonnay shimmers in the glass wit an intense yellow. The ingenious bouquet, which unfolds from fine, fruity notes, has a slight minerality. In the mouth a fantastic harmony is released. The fresh finish spoils nose and palate.
Beautiful “barrique”-matured Chardonnay, great value for money.
Sa Rota Merlot 2008
Intense cherry red color in the “copa”. The powerful bouquet is made up of black cherry, pear, and plum. Roasted flavours are perfectly integrated. On the palate it has great density and is very fruity. The finale is a nice balance of the senses, which stimulated this wine.
A fruity powerhouse.
Terra de Marès 2012
Finest cherry red sparkles seductively. The bouquet is intense, with aromas of black fruit, ripe figs, and Mediterranean spices. In the mouth this wine explodes. Strong, well-integrated tannins make the palate wide. The finish has a phenomenal length.
Powerful, mature red wine for luxury drinking.
